Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya

Navodaya admission guidance. Prepare with a clear route.

Choose the intended entry class, check the current admission notice, understand eligibility and selection requirements, then use the preparation support relevant to your child.

RAAH operates under the aegis of NISHE – National Institute of Safety Health and Environment, New Delhi.

Step 1 · Choose the entry route

One Navodaya system, different admission routes.

Class VI is the main JNVST route. Class IX and Class XI are lateral-entry routes and depend on available vacancies. Keep each class separate when checking eligibility, dates and preparation.

Main entry route

Class VI

Use the current JNVST prospectus for the admission session. Check age, schooling, district and other conditions before relying on preparation material.

Intended entry class means the class your child wants to enter — not necessarily the class your child is studying now.
About Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas

Understand the school system before choosing preparation.

Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas are co-educational residential schools under Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti, an autonomous organisation under the Ministry of Education. The current NVS Class IX prospectus describes JNVs as CBSE-affiliated residential schools and lists 665 functional JNVs across 27 States and 8 Union Territories.

01

Residential schooling

JNVs are residential schools from Class VI to XII. Families should consider the residential environment as well as the examination.

02

CBSE affiliation

The current NVS prospectus states that JNVs are affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education.

03

District-linked admission

Eligibility and school choice can depend on residence, schooling district and the specific class route. Always check the current notice.

04

Different entry routes

Class VI is the main selection-test entry. Class IX and XI lateral entry are against vacancies and have separate conditions.

The current Class IX prospectus notes that education, board and lodging, uniforms and textbooks are provided by the scheme, while also specifying Vidyalaya Vikas Nidhi provisions for many students in Classes IX–XII and exemptions for stated categories. Check the current prospectus for the applicable fee provisions.

Step 2 · Eligibility guidance

Check the rule for the exact class and admission session.

Navodaya eligibility is not one generic age rule. District, present class, school recognition, residence and the current prospectus can all matter.

Class VI

Use the current JNVST prospectus

  • Confirm the child’s date of birth against the current notice.
  • Check current schooling and district requirements.
  • Confirm whether any rural/urban or category rule applies.
Class IX · 2027–28

Current published criteria

  • Bona fide resident of the district concerned.
  • Studying Class VIII during 2026–27 in a Govt./Govt.-recognised school in the same district where admission is sought.
  • Date of birth: 1 May 2012 to 31 July 2014, both inclusive.
  • Indian national studying Class VIII in India.
Class XI · 2027–28

Check the current lateral-entry prospectus

  • Admission is against available vacancies.
  • Current Class X / schooling requirements must be checked in the 2027–28 prospectus.
  • Confirm age, district, stream and other class-specific conditions before applying.
RAAH eligibility guidance is preliminary support. Final eligibility and admission decisions rest with Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti / the admitting JNV under the applicable official rules.
Step 3 · Selection test

Prepare for the pattern that belongs to your route.

Do not use a Class VI paper to represent Class IX, or one year’s pattern for another without checking the current prospectus.

Class IX · 2027–28 official pattern

100 marks · 2½ hours · objective / OMR

The current Class IX prospectus states that the paper is based on Class VIII level and contains English, Hindi, Mathematics and General Science. It also states there is no negative marking.

Hindi15 questions15 marks
Mathematics35 questions35 marks
General Science35 questions35 marks
Class VI

Use the current JNVST paper pattern

RAAH should show the exact mental-ability, arithmetic and language structure only after checking the current Class VI prospectus for the relevant session.

Class XI

Use the current stream / lateral-entry requirements

Class XI preparation should follow the subjects and selection criteria stated in the current NVS prospectus rather than reusing the Class IX pattern.

Step 4 · Syllabus & preparation

Build preparation around the official syllabus and the child’s present level.

RAAH’s role should be to turn the published syllabus into an organised study plan, practice cycle and review process — not to replace the official syllabus.

A

Understand the syllabus

Separate the official syllabus by subject, topic and target class before planning lessons.

B

Check readiness

Use a diagnostic to identify what the child understands now and which foundations need attention.

C

Practise deliberately

Use topic work, timed sections, OMR practice where applicable and review errors after each test.

D

Revise & retest

Repeat weak topics and compare performance using tests of similar difficulty.

Structured learning

Regular Live Preparation

Scheduled teaching, topic practice, revision and tests for the relevant Navodaya route when a batch is available.

Closer review

Small-Batch Mentoring

For students who need closer monitoring, study planning and regular review of identified learning gaps.

RAAH enrolment does not constitute an application to Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti and does not guarantee admission.
Application & document guidance

Use the official portal. Prepare the information before you start.

The exact documents differ by class and admission session. Read the applicable prospectus first, then prepare only the documents required for that route.

01

Choose class & session

Confirm Class VI, IX or XI and the academic session.

02

Check eligibility

Verify age, present class, school, residence/district and category conditions.

03

Read the prospectus

Use the official current NVS notice, not a previous-year checklist.

04

Submit carefully

Review entered details and uploaded files before final submission.

05

Save confirmation

Keep the application / registration confirmation and follow later notices.

For current Class IX registration

The 2027–28 prospectus says candidates should keep the candidate photograph, candidate signature and parent signature in the specified JPG/JPEG size range, and enter district, study and other candidate details carefully.

Application safety

Parents should retain control of their application account and should not share passwords, OTPs or payment PINs with a counsellor. RAAH can guide the process without taking control of private credentials.

Parent FAQs

Common questions before you decide the next step.

Does RAAH guarantee Navodaya admission?
No. RAAH provides preparation and guidance. Final selection and admission are determined by NVS / the admitting JNV under the applicable rules and available seats.
Is Class IX admission available in every JNV?
Class IX lateral entry is against vacant seats. The current prospectus makes selection subject to the availability of seats in the JNV concerned and relevant category/quota.
Can my child apply to a JNV in another district?
Do not assume this. District-residence and schooling conditions are class-specific. For example, the current Class IX 2027–28 prospectus requires the district of residence and Class VIII study to be the same district where admission is sought.
Does RAAH submit the official school application?
The official application must be completed through the applicable NVS route. RAAH can provide guidance and checklist support, but official application and RAAH enrolment are separate actions.
Can preparation be taken online?
RAAH can offer New Delhi / Online support where the relevant programme is available. Check the Batches & Fees page for confirmed delivery mode, schedule and inclusions.
Where should I check changing dates?
Use the current official NVS portal / prospectus first. RAAH’s Exam Calendar can organise those dates, but the official notice remains the controlling source.
Need help choosing the next step?

Discuss your child’s Navodaya route with RAAH.

Tell us the intended entry class, present class and admission session. We can help you identify the relevant notice, preparation route and next action.
